Peel pears and cut slices lengthwise.
Pre-heat oven at 170°c.
Heat brown sugar and 2 tbsp butter in a saucepan.
Add pears, cook for few minutes.
Grease a 10-inch spring-form pan and line with butter paper.
Layer with pear pieces.
Sieve flour with baking powder and salt.
Beat remaining butter and sugar with electric beater.
Add egg and beat, add vanilla essence and milk. Beat well.
Add flour, beat for a few minutes.
Pour mixture in a pan and level it.
Bake in oven at 180°c for 45 minutes.
Cool cake, remove on cake dish.
