Ingredients

  • Pineapple 1 medium
  • Urad dhal 4 oz
  • Gram dhal 1 tsp
  • Black dhal 1 tsp
  • Oil 2 tsp
  • Black pepper 1 tsp
  • Dry red chilies 2
  • Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • Asafoetida 1/4 tsp
  • Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
  • a sprig of curry leaves
  • Coriander leaves a small bunch
  • Salt to taste

Cooking Directions

  1. Cook the urad dhal in enough water.

  2. Peel pineapple, squeeze out 6 cups of juice, adding water if necessary.

  3. Fry the gram and black dhals, pepper, red chilies and asafetida in a tsp of oil and grind to a paste.

  4. Mix the paste with a cup of water and add turmeric powder and salt.

  5. Pour the mixture in the pineapple juice and then pour this juice into the cooked dhal.

  6. Now add the coriander and curry leaves.

  7. Leave the dhal to cook for 15 minutes.

  8. Fry mustard in a tsp of oil and pour it into the pineapple rasam when the seeds start sputtering.

  9. Serve with boiled rice.
