Ingredients

  • Breast of mutton 2 lb
  • Cloves 8-10
  • Ghee 10 tbsp
  • Peppercorns 10-15
  • Onions 1/2 lb
  • Dry coriander powder 2 tsp (ground to a paste with little water)
  • Curd or yoghurt 1 pint
  • Curry patta (curry leaf) 2 leaves
  • Cinnamon 2 pieces
  • Dry red chillies 6
  • Black cardamoms 6 large
  • Salt to taste

Cooking Directions

  1. Put all the ingredients into a saucepan after washing and cutting up meat and slicing the onions.

  2. Mix well, and then pour in enough cold water to cover the mixture.

  3. Cook on a low heat until meat is soft, stirring well occasionally.

  4. When the onions have dissolved and the ghee comes to the top, thus forming gravy, serve hot with chappatis.

  5. The gravy should not be too thick and water may be added during cooking.
