Ingredients

  • Basmati rice 2 cup
  • Red lentils ½ cup
  • Ginger garlic paste 2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Turmeric powder a pinch
  • Cinnamon sticks 2
  • Cardamom 4
  • Cloves 4
  • Onions 2 (medium, chopped)
  • Green coriander leaves a bunch
  • Mint leaves few sprigs
  • Water 4 cup
  • Oil 3 tbsp

Cooking Directions

  1. Heat oil in a pressure cooker (hawkins).

  2. Add the spices, chopped onions and fry until light brown.

  3. Add the ginger garlic paste and fry for few minutes.

  4. Wash the red lentil, add and fry for few minutes.

  5. Now add salt, turmeric and rice, fry for few more minutes till you get the aroma.

  6. Now add water, cover the cooker and allow to cook for three whistles.

  7. Switch off the flame and allow to cool by itself.

  8. Do not keep under the tap to cool.

  9. Open after 15 minutes, the khichdi is ready.

  10. Add in chopped coriander and mint an serve.

  11. Happy appetite.
