Chowmein is a Chinese term for a dish of stir-fried noodles, consisting of anu sort of met with vegetables.with of which there are many varieties. These recipes are all cooked almost in similar manner, try beef chowmein a family favourite with delicious strips of beef and yummy noodles.

Ingredients

  • Boiled egg noodles 1 packet
  • Beef underhcut ½ kg (slices)
  • Chopped onion 1
  • Capsicum 1
  • Stock 2 cup
  • Cabbage ½ cup sliced
  • Ginger 1 inch chopped
  • Garlic 2 - 3 cloves
  • Spring Onion 2 - 3
  • Black pepper 1 tsp crushed
  • Chinese salt ½ tsp
  • Corn flour 2 tbsp
  • Soya sauce 3 tbsp
  • Oil 4 tbsp
  • Salt to taste

Cooking Directions

  1. In a large skillet boil the water and add 1 packet egg noodles and oil.

  2. Cook for 5 minutes.

  3. First drain the water in a colander and put the noodles under running cold water Then heat the oil in a pan and deep fry half of the noodles.

  4. Now place the boiled and fried egg noodles in a serving dish.

  5. Heat oil in a pan and fry garlic, ginger, chopped onion and fry for 2 to 3 minutes.

  6. Add beef in the pan and stir fry.

  7. Add soya sauce, chopped black pepper, chinese salt and salt to taste with stock.

  8. When the mixture begins to boil then add chopped capsicum and cabbage and fry for 3 to 5 minutes.

  9. Now mix corn flour in a water and add it gradually.

  10. When the mixture thickens, turn the flame and pour the beef sauce on top of the noodles.

  11. Garnish with spring onion leaves and serve.
