  • Rice 2 cups
  • Split black lentils (Urad dal) 1 cup
  • Gram lentils (Chana dal) 1/4 cup
  • Ginger paste 1 tsp
  • Green chillies 6
  • Asafoetida 1/4 tsp
  • Soda bi-carbonate 1/4 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil as needed
  • Buttermilk 1/2 cup

Cooking Directions

  1. Grind rice and lentils finely after they are soaked.

  2. Heat buttermilk to lukewarm temperature and add salt in it.

  3. Mix the ground rice and lentils in it to form a thick batter.

  4. Put into a cover vessel and leave for 6-8 hours.

  5. It should ferment by the evening, if ground in the morning.

  6. Add ginger paste and chopped green chillies in this mixture, also add asafoetida, salt, 1/4 tsp soda bi-carb and a little warm oil.

  7. Grease a tray and spread this mixture in it.

  8. Put a little chopped green coriander and red chili powder on top.

  9. Steam till done. Cut into pieces and serve.
