Gram lentil is a very likable dish but bitter gourd is not. The reason that people don’t like bitter gourd is because of the bitter flavor. You can convert a non-likable dish into likeable by combining it with other as done in this recipe.

Ingredients

  • Kerala ½ kg (washed, scraped and sliced)
  • Gram lentil 1 cup (soaked)
  • Oil ½ cup
  • Cumin seeds 1 tsp heaped
  • Onion 4 (finely sliced)
  • Ginger garlic paste 1 tsp heaped
  • Turmeric ½ tsp
  • Salt 1 tsp
  • Chili powder 1 tsp heaped
  • Allspice ½ tsp
  • Tomato puree 3 tbsp

Cooking Directions

  1. Sprinkle salt over sliced bitter gourd and leave it for 2 hours.

  2. Wash them well, par boiled your soaked gram lentil, keep aside.

  3. Heat oil slightly fry bitter gourd for 5 minutes and remove.

  4. In the same oil add cumin seeds, sliced onion and fry to a light golden.

  5. Add green chilies, turmeric, salt, ginger garlic, chili powder and tomato puree, fry till comes out.

  6. Add par boiled gram lentil fried bitter gourd with half cup water.

  7. Cover and cook on simmer.

  8. Lastly add allspice.
