  • Beef meat 1 kg
  • Whole wheat 250 gm
  • Barley 250 gm
  • Black lentil 75 gm
  • Red lentil 75 gm
  • Gram lentils 75 gm
  • All spice powder 2 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds powder 2 tbsp
  • Chicken stock 3 cups
  • Onion 1 (large, sliced)
  • Ginger 4 tbsp (sliced)
  • Fresh coriander 1 bunch (chopped)
  • Green chili 8 (chopped)
  • Lemon 4
  • Red chilli powder 2 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder ½ tsp
  • Coriander powder 2 tbsp
  • Star anise powder 1 tbsp
  • Talhar chilli powder 3 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil 8 tbsp

Cooking Directions

  1. Mix together red lentils, black lentil, gram lentil, wheat and barley with 3 liters of water.

  2. Cook until soft, and then grind to a paste in a blender.

  3. Heat the chicken stock and add it to the lentil paste along with beef and ½ litre of water.

  4. Cook until the beef is tender and mash well.

  5. Combine all spice powder, salt, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, cumin seeds powder, coriander powder, talhar chilli powder, star anise powder in a small amount of water to make a smooth paste.

  6. Stir the paste into the haleem.

  7. Take oil in a pan and fry onions until golden.

  8. Remove onions from oil and set aside.

  9. Pour the hot oil from the onions over the haleem.

  10. Garnish with finely sliced ginger, chopped green chilies, fried onions, coriander and serve hot with lemon wedges.
