Ingredients

  • Fish Steaks 450 g
  • Cooking Oil 1/3 cup
  • Onion chopped finely 1/2 cup
  • Turmeric Ground 1 tsp
  • Chili Powder 1/2 tsp
  • Ginger Ground 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander Ground 1 tsp
  • Sugar 2 tsp
  • Natural Yogurt beaten 1/3 cup
  • Green chillies 4
  • Salt to taste

Cooking Directions

  1. Hilsa or other fishes like carp, bream, mackerel, salmon, lobster, prawn etc. may be selected for fish curry with yogurt.

  2. Gut, scale and rinse the fish.

  3. Cut the fish into medium-sized steaks.

  4. Rinse the steaks again under cold running water.

  5. Pat them dry on absorbent kitchen paper.

  6. Add 1 cup of water, the fish and salt.

  7. Cover and cook over moderate heat.

  8. Turn the fish once, add the chillies, yogurt, sugar and simmer till gravy thickens and oil separates out.

  9. Serve hot with fluffy boiled rice or plain pullao and salad.
