Dhaka Chicken Karahi - Like all Dhakan recipes simple ingredients are used. Dhaka chicken karahi does have a distinct and wonderful flavour, Crushed spices are used instead of powder and tomatoes, green chillies are added towards the end, that are soft yet whole. Enjoy it with naan, chapatti or rice.

  • Chicken, cut into pieces 1 kg
  • Onions, sliced 2 medium
  • Tomatoes, chopped 4
  • Green chilies 4-5
  • Water 1 cup
  • Oil 1/2 cup
  • Fresh coriander 1/4 bunch
  • Ginger, sliced 1 medium piece
  • All spice powder 1 tsp
  • Crushed cumin 1 tbsp
  • Crushed coriander 1 tbsp
  • Red chili flakes 2 tbsp
  • Ginger, garlic paste 3 tbsp

Cooking Directions

  1. Heat oil in a pan and saute ginger garlic paste in it for a few seconds.

  2. Add chicken and sauté.

  3. When chicken changes its color, add sliced ginger, cumin, coriander, red chili flakes and salt and mix.

  4. Add water, lower flame and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes.

  5. Add sliced green chilies, onions, tomatoes and fresh coriander and stir.

  6. When all vegetables are tender, add all spices powder and stir well.

  7. Dhaka Karahi is ready to serve.

  1. Tried this recipe it tasted good but the veges tasted raw even after cooking them for a long time so this time instead of adding chopped onions and tomatoes I pureed them together and then added them . This tasted much much better Do try it this way

  2. I would like to try it today....just a question to ask....if we are adding onions at step no.5, don't you think they would be raw in taste....can i saute at step 1 with ginger-galic paste?

  6. SOOMIMALIK, all spice powder also known as Garam masala and hot spice powder. The mixture is made from several spices like cloves, dry coriander, black pepper, cumin seeds and other after processing into powder form.

  8. Nice recipe, smelled great. Tasted good as well. The directions didn't mentioned when to add the water, so I added it after step 6.
