Ingredients

  • Onions, cut into big pieces 1/2 kg
  • Oil 1/2 cup / 100 ml
  • Cumin seeds (jeera) 1 tsp / 5 gm
  • Garlic (lasan) paste 1 1/2 tsp / 8 gm
  • Ginger (adrak) paste 1 1/2 tsp / 8 gm
  • Red chilli powder 1 tsp / 5 gm
  • Coriander (dhaniya) powder 2 tsp / 10 gm
  • Turmeric (haldi) powder 1 1/2 tsp / 3 gm
  • Salt to taste
  • Water 1 cup / 200 ml
  • yoghurt (dahi) 1/4 cup / 50 gm

Cooking Directions

  1. Heat the oil in a wok (kadhai).

  2. Saute the cumin seeds for a few seconds.

  3. Add the ginger and garlic pastes and fry till well browned.

  4. Mix the dry spices in ½ cup of water and yoghurt.

  5. Add this to the wok (kadhai) and fry well.

  6. When the mixture leaves the sides of the pan, add the onions and stir well.

  7. Add ½ cup of water and cook on a low flame till the onions are tender but do not lose shape.

  8. Serve hot with bajre ki roti or missi roti.
