  • Daal:
  • Brown lentil 1/2 kg
  • Garlic paste 1 tsp
  • Turmeric 1/2 tsp
  • Red pepper 1 tsp
  • Salt according to taste
  • Kayri slices (unripe mango) as to taste
  • For Baghar:
  • Oil 1/2 cup
  • Garlic 4-5 cloves
  • Cumin 1 tsp
  • Onion (chopped) 1
  • Corriander (finely chopped)
  • Salt according to taste
  • Green chilli 4-5
  • Black pepper (sabut) 4-5

Cooking Directions

  1. Soak the lentil for 3 hours.

  2. Put it on stove and cook for 30-40 minutes on low heat.

  3. Add garlic paste, turmeric, red pepper and salt.

  4. Cook for a while.

  5. Also add few slices of kayri.

  6. Cook the lentil for a while.

  7. For Baghar: Take oil in a pan.

  8. Then add onion in it, and saute them for a while.

  9. Add cumin, garlic, black pepper, salt and corriander.

  10. Also green chillies in it.

  11. Fry them all for a while.

  12. Then add them in the prepared lentil.

  13. You can garnish with fresh corriander and serve it with cumin rice.

  1. If I cook in a pressure cooker, do I still need to soak it for three hours? how long should I cook it in a pressure cooker? plus to what extent will it change in taste if I don't use kayri?
