Ingredients

  • Mutton 1/2 kg
  • Gram lentils 1 cup (boiled)
  • Eggplants 2 (cut into squares)
  • Potatoes 2 (cut into squares)
  • Bottle gourd 1 (cut into squares)
  • Tomatoes 4 (chopped)
  • Onion 1 (chopped)
  • Ginger/garlic paste 2 tbsp
  • Red chilli powder 2 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder 1 tsp
  • Hot spices powder 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds powder 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves 3 springs
  • Whole red chillies 5
  • Tamarind pulp 1 cup
  • Oil 1/2 cup
  • Salt to taste

Cooking Directions

  1. Heat oil in a pot and add onion, ginger/garlic paste, meat and water.

  2. Leave it to cook.

  3. When meat becomes tender, add salt, red chilli powder, cumin seed powder, turmeric powder and hot spices powder. Fry well.

  4. Add all vegetables and lentils in the fried meat.

  5. Leave it to cook.

  6. When the vegetables become tender, add tamarind pulp and leave to cook for 2, 3 minutes.

  7. Heat a little oil in a frying pan, add mustard leaves, curry leaves and whole red chillies for tempering.

  8. Pour this over the dish.

  9. Delicious Daalcha is ready to be served hot with ‘naans’.
