  • White fish fillets 500 g
  • Fresh bread (torn in to pieces) 3 slices
  • Plain yogurt 1/4 cup
  • Eggs 2 (separated)
  • Onion (chopped) 1 small
  • Garlic (crushed) 1 clove
  • Ginger (grated) 1 tsp
  • Cumin (ground) 1/2 tsp
  • Red chili (crushed) 1/4 tsp
  • Fresh coriander (chopped) 2 tbsp
  • Breadcrumbs 1 cup
  • Sesame seeds 1/4 cup
  • Oil for deep-frying

Cooking Directions

  1. Steam or poach fish until tender.

  2. Cool to room temperature and then grind the fish in a food processor until smooth.

  3. Transfer fish to a large bowl and mix in fresh bread pieces, yogurt, egg yolks, onion, garlic, ginger, cumin, chillies and coriander.

  4. Shape the mixture into 24 balls.

  5. Dip the balls into lightly-beaten egg whites.

  6. Then coat the balls with breadcrumbs and sesame seeds, pressing gently.

  7. Refrigerate the well coated fish balls on tray for 30 minutes.

  8. Deep-fry balls in hot oil until golden brown.

  9. Drain on absorbent paper.

  10. Serve hot with ketchup or tartar sauce.

  11. (Sesame fish balls can be prepared a day ahead, but fry right before serving)
