  • Vaal Dal 1 cup
  • Rice 1 cup
  • Ghee 1/2 cup
  • Cumin Seeds 1/2 tsp
  • Cloves(laung) 3-4
  • Cinnamon 2 sticks
  • Bayleaves 2
  • Cauliflower Florets 1 cup
  • Brinjal cubes 3/4 cup
  • Potato cubes 3/4 cup
  • French Beans(1" pieces) 3/4 cup
  • Onion cubes 1/2 cup
  • Green Peas 1/2 cup
  • Turmeric Powder 1/2 cup
  • Chilli Powder 1 tsp
  • Garam Masala 1/2 tsp
  • Salt to taste

Cooking Directions

  1. Soak the vaal dal and rice in enough water for 10 minutes.

  2. Drain and keep aside.

  3. Heat the ghee in a pressure cooker and add the cumin seeds, cloves, cinnamon and bayleaves.

  4. When the cumin seeds crackle, all the vegetables, turmeric powder, chilli powder, garam masala and salt and mix well.

  5. Add the rice and vaal dal and saute on a medium flame till the ghee coats the grains evenly.

  6. Add 4 cups of hot water, stir well and pressure cook for at least 3 whistles.

  7. Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid.

  8. Serve hot with a raita or kadhi.
