Ingredients

  • Dhal 8 oz
  • French beans 2 lb
  • Coconut 1/2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • Rice 1 tsp
  • Coriander seeds 1 tbsp
  • Asafoetida a small piece
  • Dry red chilies 5-6
  • Salt to taste

Cooking Directions

  1. Cook dhal the usual way and when cooked, strain but keep the water.

  2. Wash the beans and cut into tiny pieces, then cook them in the dhal water. Add salt.

  3. Next grind all the other ingredients to a smooth paste and when the beans are tender add cooked dhal and the ground masala to them.

  4. Add a little water and stir well until the curry thickens.

  5. Remove and serve hot with cooked rice or chappatis.

  6. Any remaining dhal could be make into chutney by grinding it with 4-5 green chilies, a little grated coconut and pinch of salt, coriander leaves and asafetida.

  7. This is particularly delicious with puris.
