Clean, wash and soak the toovar in enough water overnight, add 2 1/2 cups of water and the whole onions and pressure cook for 2 to 3 whistles or till the toovar is cooked.

Ingredients

  • To be ground into a paste:
  • Garlic cloves 8
  • Dry Red Chillies 8
  • Coriander seeds 2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds 1 tsp
  • Ginger(1 1/2" piece) 35 mm
  • Other Ingredients:
  • Toovar(soaked overnight) 1 cup
  • Whole Onions 7-8
  • Ghee 4 tbsp
  • Onions(sliced) 1 cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Tomatoes(chopped) 3/4 cup
  • For the garnish:
  • Coriander(chopped) 2 tbsp

Cooking Directions

  1. Clean, wash and soak the toovar in enough water overnight, add 2 1/2 cups of water and the whole onions and pressure cook for 2 to 3 whistles or till the toovar is cooked.

  2. Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid. Keep aside.

  3. Heat the ghee in a kadhai, add the sliced onions and saute for 2 to 3 minutes, while stirring continuously.

  4. Add the ground paste and saute for another 3 to 4 minutes, while stirring continuously.

  5. Add cooked toovar, 1 cup of water and salt, mix well and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring once in between.

  6. Add the tomatoes and simmer for another 10 minutes.

  7. Serve hot garnished with coriander.
