This tempting recipe is specially for fish lovers. Lightly marinated fish is served with rice pilaf. This dish is complimented with spicy chili garlic chutney.

  • For fish:
  • One whole fish of choice (approx 450 gm)
  • Oil ½ liter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Ginger and garlic paste 1 tsp
  • Lemon juice 1 tbsp
  • For Pilaf:
  • Rice 1 cup (soaked)
  • Cumin seeds ¼ tsp
  • Onion 1 (medium, sliced)
  • Cinnamon stick 1
  • Salt to taste
  • For Chili Garlic Chutney:
  • Whole red chili ¼ cup
  • Cumin seeds 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Garlic cloves 5 - 6

Cooking Directions

  1. For Fish Marination: Remove the scale and the clean inside of the fish.

  2. Cut slits on both sides of fish with a sharp knife.

  3. Marinate with salt, pepper, ginger and garlic paste and lemon juice.

  4. Leave it to rest for 1 hour.

  5. For Pilaf: Heat 2 tbsp of oil in medium sized pot.

  6. Add sliced onion, stir fry till it turns golden.

  7. Now add cinnamon sticks and cumin seeds, stir for couple of minutes.

  8. Add the soaked rice along with ¼ cup of water and salt to taste.

  9. Cover with tight lid and cook on medium flame for 10 minutes.

  10. When water dries, steam it on a hot griddle pan over very low flame for 10 minutes.

  11. For Chili Garlic chutney: Soak the red chili in hot water for 10 minutes.

  12. Put the soaked red chilies with a little water of the chilies, cumin seed, garlic cloves and salt in grinder.

  13. Grind them into a fine paste.

  14. For Fish Preparation: Heat oil in a wok on medium flame.

  15. Deep fry the marinated fish in hot oil till golden.

  16. Remove and place on a paper towel to absorb any excess oil.

  17. Serve it on a dish with pilaf and chili garlic chutney.
