Ingredients

  • Shortening 3/4 cup
  • Sugar 3/4 cup
  • Molasses 1/2 cup
  • Egg 1
  • All-purpose flour 2, 1/4 cup
  • Baking soda 1, 1/2 tsp
  • Cinnamon, ground 1 tsp
  • Ginger, ground 1/2 tsp
  • Cloves, ground 1/8 tsp
  • Salt 1/4 tsp
  • Sugar as required

Cooking Directions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, cream shortening and 3/4 cup sugar until light and fluffy.

  2. Add molasses and egg, beat well.

  3. In another bowl combine dry ingredients and mix with fork.

  4. Stir dry ingredients into creamed mixture, mix well.

  5. Chill cookie dough for 2 hours.

  6. Shape in 1-inch balls, then roll each ball in sugar.

  7. Place ginger cookies on greased baking sheets and bake in preheated 375° oven for about 12 minutes.

  8. Makes about 4 dozen crispy ginger cookies.

  1. Noraidah Abdul Hadi, molasses is indeed hard to find. You can replace 1 cup molasses with 1 cup maple syrup, dark corn syrup or honey. Or you can go for 3/4 cup packed brown sugar. Good luck with the recipe!

  2. hi... let's say I cant get this molasses at my place, can I repalce it with something else? Or I just add extra golden syrup? No shop selling molasses here. Any suggestion?
