Ingredients

  • Chana dal 1 1/4 cup
  • Moung dal 1 1/4 cup
  • Urad dal 1 1/4 cup (dhuli hui)
  • Mash dal 1 1/4 cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Cloves 4-5 only
  • Oil 1/2 cup
  • Green chillies 2 only
  • Coriander powder 1 tsp
  • Ginger 1 inch piece
  • Green coriander leaves 1/2 cup
  • Cumin 1 tsp
  • Turmeric a pinch
  • Garam masala 1/2 tsp
  • Tomatoes 2 only
  • Dry red chillies 3,4 only

Cooking Directions

  1. Wash and soak all ‘Dals’ in water for 2 hours.

  2. Then boil them in saltish water until tender.

  3. Cut in pieces green chilies and coriander leaves. Thinly slice ginger.

  4. In a pan heat oil and fry in it cumin, cloves, dry red chilies and turmeric. When reddish brown then add ginger and green chilies also in this pan and fry for a while.

  5. Now add to this coriander powder and red chilies and stir-fry for a minute.

  6. Now add tomatoes and stir-fry until oil is separated.

  7. To this pan add ‘daals’ (lentils) while stirring. Mix all well and cook on low flame for few minutes then put off the flame.

  8. Serve hot with rice or as soup.
