Khichri is a kind of rice dish, prepared with moong daal. It's good and also prepare for patients because it's light and easily digest. Great to eat in hot summer day in lunch with yogurt, pickle and tomato chuttni.

  • Rice basmati 1 cup
  • Yellow lentil ¼ cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Whole black pepper 10
  • Cinnamon stick 2
  • Whole clove 3
  • Bay leaves 1-2
  • White cumin seeds ½ tsp
  • Ginger garlic paste 1 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder ½ tsp
  • Whole red chili 3
  • Whole green chili 2
  • Tomato 1
  • Brown onion ½ cup
  • Onion 1
  • Green coriander leaves ½ bunch
  • Clarified Butter ¼ cup

Cooking Directions

  1. Soak rice and yellow lentils for ½ hour.

  2. Heat medium size of cooking pot and add clarified butter, let the clarified butter melt.

  3. Put onion slices, ginger garlic paste, stir it.

  4. Add cumin seeds, whole black pepper, cinnamon stick, whole cloves, bay leaves, whole red chilies, stir them.

  5. Add tomato slice, whole green chilies.

  6. Now put the soaked rice and yellow lentil into the pot.

  7. Add turmeric powder, stir it gently for couple of minutes.

  8. Add water as required to cook.

  9. Cook it till water is dried and rice is cooked.

  10. Remove it from fire, serve it on a platter, with pickle, raita and papa Dom.
