Chicken Shawarma is favorite Middle Eastern snack. Its chicken marinated with little spices and filled in pita bread or rolls. It gives its best flavor with tahina and yogurt sauce and is filled with salad leaves, tomatoes and cucumber.

Ingredients

  • Chicken boneless ¼ kg
  • Salt & pepper totaste
  • Garlic cloves 3
  • Plain yoghurt 1 cup
  • Lemon 1
  • Lemon salt pinch
  • Oil ¼ cup
  • Arabic spices ¼ tsp
  • Tomato paste 1 tsp
  • Pita bread/ rolls 4 – 6
  • Onion 1 medium
  • Tomatoes 1 medium
  • Cucumber 2 - 3 slices (pickled)
  • For Tahina Yogurt Sauce:
  • Tahina sauce 2 tbsp
  • Plain yogurt 1 cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Garlic cloves 2

Cooking Directions

  1. For Tahina Yogurt sauce:

  2. In a blender blend together plain yoghurt, tahina sauce, garlic cloves and salt.

  3. Blend to a fine texture and pour in a bowl.

  4. For Chicken Shawarma:

  5. Take boneless chicken breast piece and cut julienne.

  6. Blend together plain yoghurt, garlic cloves, lemon slices, lemon salt, ¼ cup oil, Arabic spices, tomato paste, salt & pepper.

  7. Blend till smooth texture is formed.

  8. Now marinate the chicken for ½ an hour with the prepared marinade.

  9. If you have a shawarma grilling machine, then fill the iron skewer for grilling the shawrama & if not then sauté them the chicken on a frying pan.

  10. Now julienne cut the onions, pickled cucumbers and tomatoes, for filling the shawarma.

  11. Take the pita bread or bread rolls, open it from between spread the Tahina yoghurt sauce on it, and put some sautéed chicken and some salad on top.

  12. Top with some extra tahina yoghurt sauce.
