  • Whole meal flour 220g
  • Cold salted butter 110g
  • Cold water to knead
  • Silver beet leaves or spinach leaves 6
  • Cooked brown rice 100g
  • Cheese 200g (grated)
  • Egg 1
  • Salt and pepper for seasoning

Cooking Directions

  1. Add whole meal flour in a large bowl, break butter and rub in flour until get crumbly texture. Now add water and knead it to form pastry dough.

  2. Wrap pastry in cling film and place in refrigerator for an hour.

  3. Line a 24cm tart shell with the pastry and bake in a 180C oven for 15-20 minutes.

  4. Meanwhile, wash silver beet leaves or spinach leaves and boil in salted water about 2-4 minutes.

  5. Squeeze out water from leaves and roughly chop them.

  6. Mix chopped leaves in brown rice, cheese and egg. Season with salt and pepper.

  7. Bake in a preheated 180C oven for 20-25 minutes. Slice and serve.

  1. when I was 19 years old I worked in angel arcade city at night wholemeal restaurant and Hunza Pie was the biggest seller. I am now 64yrs old and over years have made versions of it but your receipe is the closest made it last night doubled the receipe and added goats cheese my favourite and layer of matured cheese on top of spinich mixture beautiful.
