Rasam is a South Indian soup. It is prepared with tamarind juice or tomato, pepper and other spices. Lentils are added by some along with vegetables.

  • Tur dal 120 gms
  • Sambar powder 2 tsps
  • Tumeric powder 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds 1 tbsp
  • Curry leaves 8
  • Coriander leaves 1/2 bunch
  • Tamarind a little
  • Salt to taste
  • Coconut oil

Cooking Directions

  1. Soak the dal and tamarind separately for an hour before cooking.

  2. Boil a little water and add dal as soon as it starts boiling.

  3. Also add salt and a little turmeric powder and let it cook.

  4. In the meantime squeeze out the juice from the tamarind

  5. and boil it after adding to it a little water,

  6. finely sliced green chillies, a little salt and turmeric powder.

  7. Let it boil for ½ an hour them add the cooked dal to it.

  8. Heat 1 tbsp. oil and add the mustard seeds and curry leaves.

  9. When ready add to the rasam. Finally add coriander leaves.
