Ingredients

  • Capsicums (sweet peppers) 1 lb
  • Currants or raisins 4 oz
  • Groundnuts 8 oz
  • Gram dhal 2 oz
  • Grated coconut 1 cup
  • Lemon sized lump tamarind 1
  • Sesame seeds 2
  • Asafoetida a pinch
  • Ghee 3 tbsp
  • Salt and jaggery to taste

Cooking Directions

  1. Cut each capsicum into 6-8 pieces.

  2. Grind the tamarind, coconut, and roasted gram dhal and sesame seeds to a fine paste with a little water.

  3. Heat ghee and fry the pieces of capsicums.

  4. Add coarsely powdered groundnuts, currants, jaggery, 1/2 pint water and salt.

  5. Mix tin the masala paste, cover the saucepan and simmer on a medium heat for about 1/2 -3/4 hour.

  6. When the gravy is thick, remove and serve hot.
