Ingredients

  • Yeast ¾ tsp (active dry)
  • Warm water 1 tbsp
  • All purpose flour 1 cup
  • Sugar 2 tbsp (divided)
  • Salt ¼ tsp
  • Cold butter or margarine 3 tbsp (divided, melted)
  • Warm milk ¼ cup
  • Egg yolk 1
  • Brown sugar 2 tbsp
  • Cinnamon ½ tsp (ground)
  • Chocolate chips 1/3 cup (miniature semisweet)
  • For glaze:
  • Confectioner's sugar 1/3 cup
  • Butter or margarine 1 1/2 tsp (softened)
  • Vanilla extract ¼ teaspoon
  • Milk 1 ½ tsp

Cooking Directions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water.

  2. In another bowl, combine the flour, 1 tablespoon sugar and salt.

  3. Cut in 2 tablespoons of the butter until crumbly.

  4. Add the milk, egg yolk and yeast mixture; stir well.

  5. Cover with plastic wrap; refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.

  6. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface.

  7. Roll out into a 10 x 6" rectangle.

  8. Melt remaining butter; brush butter to within ½" of edges.

  9. Combine the brown sugar, cinnamon and remaining sugar.

  10. Sprinkle over dough then sprinkle with chocolate chips.

  11. Roll up jelly-roll style, starting with a short side; pinch seam to seal.

  12. Cut into 1" slices and place cut side down in a greased 8" square baking dish.

  13. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled about 1-1/2 hours.

  14. Bake at 375 degrees F for 15 – 18 minutes or until golden brown.

  15. For Glaze: In a bowl, combine the confectioners' sugar, butter, vanilla and enough milk to medium consistency.

  16. Drizzle over warm buns and serve with tea or coffee.
