Mousse is a light, fluffy and velvety French dessert which literally means "Foam". Chocolate is the most popular flavor of mousse world wide. Prepare chocolate mousse and serve it on its own or you can prepare a chocolate mousse cake with it.

  • Semi sweet chocolate 8 oz
  • Water 4 tbsp
  • Butter 2 tbsp unsalted (cut into small pieces)
  • Eggs 4
  • Heavy cream 6 tbsp
  • Cream of tartar 1/4 tsp
  • Caster sugar 3 tbsp
  • Sour cream and chocolate curls to serve

Cooking Directions

  1. Place the chocolate in a heat proof bowl and melt over low heat then mix in the water and butter and stir well to combine.

  2. With an electric beater, beat the egg yolks for 2-3 minutes until thick and creamy then slowly beat in the melted chocolate until well blended and set aside.

  3. Whip the cream until soft peaks form and stir a spoonful in the chocolate mixture to lighten it and then fold in the remaining cream.

  4. In a clean bowl beat the egg whites until light and frothy then add the cream of tartar turn the beater speed on high and beat until peaks form.

  5. Gradually add the sugar and beat until the whites are glossy and stiff.

  6. Using a rubber spatula stir in a quarter of the egg whites into the chocolate mixture, then gradually fold in the egg whites into the chocolate mixtures until well combined.

  7. Spoon into serving bowls and chill for at-least 2 hours or until set and chilled before serving.

  8. Spoon a dollop of sour cream over the mousse bowls and garnish with chocolate curls and serve.
