Fish pulao is popular Bengali/Assam rice dish. Fish is cooked in spices and then added to rice and delicious pulao is prepared. Serve hot with raita.

  • Pomfrets, filleted cod 500 gm
  • Medium onion (chopped) 1
  • Salt 2 tsp
  • Oil as required
  • Turmeric powder 1 tsp
  • Dried red chillies 3-4
  • Rice 1, 1/2 cup
  • Ghee 2 tbsp
  • Coriander leaves 1 small bunch
  • All spice 1, 1/2 tsp
  • Lemon juice 1 tsp

Cooking Directions

  1. Wash and dry the fish and cut into pieces.

  2. Heat 1 tbsp oil. Add turmeric powder, chopped coriander, chillies, all spice and 1 tsp salt.

  3. Let it sizzle for 2-3 minutes.

  4. Then add the lemon juice and put in the pieces of fish and fry them well on both sides, so that the spices coats them.

  5. When they are cooked, remove.

  6. Fry the chopped onion to a light brown, add the rice and salt to taste and fry for 2-3 minutes.

  7. Add 3 cups of hot water and cook till nearly done.

  8. Cover and cook on a very low heat.

  9. Let the rice cook till all water evaporates. Serve hot.
