Indonesian Satay - Satay is the national dish of Indonesia and is found not only in Indonesia but also in the neighboring countries. Marinated meat is put on skewers, then grilled or barbecued on charcoal and served with a variety of spicy seasonings and sauces. This is the recipe of chicken satay served with peanut sauce.

Ingredients

  • Chicken fillet 1/2 kg
  • Roasted cumin crushed 1 tsp
  • Coriander crushed 1 tsp
  • Salt 1 tsp
  • Garlic paste 1 tsp
  • Ginger grated 1 tbsp
  • Curry powder 1 tbsp heaped
  • Peanut butter 2 tbsp
  • Lemon juice 2 tbsp
  • Honey 2 tbsp
  • Oil as required
  • For Peanut Sauce:
  • Peanut butter 1/2 cup
  • Coconut milk 1/4 cup
  • Ginger garlic paste 1 tsp
  • Oil 1 tbsp
  • Green cardamom powder 1/4 tsp
  • Turmeric 1/4 tsp
  • Chili powder 1/2 tsp
  • Lemon juice 2 tbsp

Cooking Directions

  1. For Peanut Sauce: In blender put together peanut butter, ginger garlic paste, green cardamom powder, chili powder, turmeric, oil, lemon juice and coconut milk.

  2. Blend well till smooth.

  3. For Satay: Cut chicken breast into long strips.

  4. Marinate chicken strips with peanut butter, lemon juice, honey, grated ginger, roasted cumin crushed, crushed coriander, salt, garlic paste and curry powder for 2 hours.

  5. Thread chicken on wooden skewers, BBQ or grill till done, brushing with oil.

  6. Serve hot with peanut sauce.
