Wash rice thoroughly, rinse and soak in ½ pint fresh cold water for 15 minutes. Then add milk, coconut and a pinch of salt and mix well.

Ingredients

  • Coarsely-crushed rice 1 lb
  • Milk 3/8 pint
  • Grated coconut 6 tbsp
  • Salt a pinch

Cooking Directions

  1. Wash rice thoroughly, rinse and soak in ½ pint fresh cold water for 15 minutes.

  2. Then add milk, coconut and a pinch of salt and mix well.

  3. Pour in equal amounts into three baking trays or Pyrex plates and steam for 30-35 minutes.

  4. When slightly cool, quarter the bread and serve with curry or dhal.

  5. To prepare sweet paputoo, add 4 oz.

  6. Sugar instead of salt and serve with butter.
