Ingredients

  • Cabbage 1
  • Beans 1/2 kg
  • Capsicum 1/2 kg
  • Pigeon peas (Tur daal) 1 cup
  • Oil 3-4 tbsp
  • Black gram (Urad daal) 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • Asafoetida a pinch
  • Curry leaves a few
  • Red chillies a few
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil as needed

Cooking Directions

  1. Cut the vegetables into fine pieces.

  2. Soak the pigeon peas for about 3-4 hours.

  3. Then strain and grind with 2 red chillies and salt to taste.

  4. Fry the mustard seeds, 1/2 tsp black gram, red chillies, asafoetida and turmeric powder gently.

  5. Add the vegetables and cook till tender, remove.

  6. Heat 3-4 tbsp oil and fry 1/2 tsp black gram, mustard seeds, curry leaves and a pinch of asafoetida.

  7. Add the ground pigeon peas and fry till the mixture leaves the sides of the pan.

  8. Add the cooked vegetables and fry for a few more minutes till the usli is nearly prepared.

  9. Add a pinch of sugar.

  10. Cool and break up the vegetables mixture with the fork and serve with rice and ghee.
