Ingredients

  • The head of any large fish (preferably rohu)
  • Gram lentils 1 cup
  • Turmeric powder and salt 1 tsp each
  • Bay leaves 2
  • Finely chopped tomatoes 2
  • Sugar according to taste
  • Mustard oil as required
  • All spice a pinch
  • Grind Together:
  • Onion 2
  • Ginger 1/2" piece
  • Red chillies 5
  • Cloves of garlic 6
  • Cumin seeds 1 tsp

Cooking Directions

  1. Boil lentils.

  2. Heat oil and brown the head of the fish (rohu) with turmeric powder and salt. Keep aside.

  3. Grind onions, ginger, garlic, cumin seeds and red chillies.

  4. Heat ghee in a pan, put in bay leaves, fish head, salt, finely chopped tomatoes and a little sugar.

  5. Add a little water. When nearly done add the lentils.

  6. Cook. When ready, add a seasoning of whole all spice and serve with rice.
