  • Sweet butter 1/2 cup
  • Superfine sugar 3/4 cup
  • Dark brown sugar 1/2 cup
  • Dark chocolate 4, 1/2 ounces
  • Light corn syrup 1 tbsp
  • Eggs 2
  • Chocolate 1 tsp
  • All purpose flour 3/4 cup
  • Unsweetened cocoa 2 tbsp
  • Baking powder 1/2 tsp

Cooking Directions

  1. Lightly grease and flour a shallow 8 inch square cake pan.

  2. Place the butter, sugars, dark chocolate and light corn syrup in a heavy based saucepan and heat gently, stirring until the mixture is well blended and smooth.

  3. Remove from the heat and let cool.

  4. Beat together the eggs and extract.

  5. Beat in the cooled chocolate mixture.

  6. Sift together the flour, unsweetened cocoa, and baking powder and fold carefully into the egg and chocolate mixture, using a metal spoon or a spatula.

  7. Spoon the mixture into the prepared pan and bake in a preheated oven at 350F for 25 minutes, until the top is crisp and the edge of the cake is beginning to shrink away from the pan.

  8. The inside of the cake will still be quite dense and soft to the touch.

  9. Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan, then cut it into squares to serve.
