Chop dates and soak with soda and water for 6 hours.
Sieve baking powder and flour together.
Beat butter and sugar together till they are creamy.
Add vanilla essence, eggs one by one alternating with 1 tbsp of flour.
Fold all of the flour and dates in the mixture very lightly.
Add crushed walnuts in the cake mixture and fold lightly.
Pour this mixture in greased loaf pan and sprinkle walnuts on the top.
Bke in a preheated oven at No. 4 or 180 degrees for about 40 minutes.
