Balushahi - The sweet of religious events. Balushahi is the Asian version of doughnuts. Balushahi too is deep fried dough just like doughnuts, but ofcourse prepared in a different style. The soft and crispy texture of balushahi makes it exceptional.

Ingredients

  • Fine flour 1, 1/2 cup
  • Eating soda a pinch
  • Silver leaves 2
  • Water 1/2 cup
  • Pistachio 100 gm
  • Tatric acid 1/4 tsp
  • Alum (patkhari) 1/4 tsp
  • Clarified ghee 4 tbsp
  • For Sugar Syrup:
  • Sugar 1 kg
  • Water 1 glass
  • Cardamom, crushed 1/2 tsp
  • Clarified oil as required

Cooking Directions

  1. In a bowl add fine flour and soda, tatric acid, alum (pitkhari), half cup water and clarified ghee.

  2. Knead well.

  3. Now make small balls of dough.

  4. Make a dent in the center of the dough ball with your thumb.

  5. Fry in oil till golden.

  6. Now prepare sugar syrup with sugar, cardamom and water on medium heat.

  7. Soak the balushahi in sugar syrup for half an hour.

  8. Garnish with silver leaves and pistachio, serve.
