Ingredients

  • Fish 1 lb
  • Onions 3
  • Green chilies 8
  • Coriander leaves 1/2 large bunch
  • Cloves 4
  • Peppercorns 1 tsp
  • Cardamoms 6
  • Cinnamon 4 sticks
  • Cumin seeds 1 tsp
  • Tomatoes 2
  • Coriander powder 2 tsp
  • Ginger 1 small piece
  • Ghee 6 tbsp
  • Salt to taste

Cooking Directions

  1. Bake or grill the fish slowly till done, then remove all flesh from the bones.

  2. Slice very fine, 1 onion, 4 green chilies and coriander leaves and mix them with the fish.

  3. Grind together peppercorns, cumin seeds, 3 cardamoms, cloves and cinnamon and add to the fish.

  4. Mix well and mash to a paste, and then make small round balls from the paste.

  5. Heat half the ghee in a frying pan and fry the fish balls till well browned.

  6. If fish balls tend to break apart, dip in beaten egg before frying.

  7. Heat the remaining ghee in a saucepan, add 2 sliced onions and 4 sliced chillies and fry till brown, then add chopped tomatoes and a pint of water and simmer gently on a low heat.

  8. When the liquid dries, add chopped ginger, 3 cardamoms, coriander powder and salt to taste.

  9. Add another pint of water.

  10. Bring to the boil and add the fish balls.

  11. Simmer gently for 15 minutes and serve hot with boiled rice.
