Pita Bread, otherwise known as pocket bread, is a favourite bread for those fast sandwiches that everyone loves. Children love them because they can 'personalize' them with all sorts of ingredients and have fun loading the 'pockets' of the bread.

  • Plain flour 1/2 kg
  • Yeast 1 sachet
  • Sugar 1 tsp
  • Baking powder 2 tsp

Cooking Directions

  1. Pour the packet of yeast and sugar in the luke warm water, mix well.

  2. Allow the yeast to activate, setting it aside for 10-15 minutes.

  3. Then, mix the plain flour,baking powder and salt together in a separate bowl.

  4. Mix well and keep aside.

  5. When yeast turned active then put it in flour mixture bowl, stir slowly until the dough forms.

  6. Now knead the dough in the bowl for about 5 minutes, adding flour if needed until dough is smooth and elastic.

  7. Let pitas dough rise, wrapped on plastic sheets for approximately 2 hours.

  8. preheat the oven to 200 degrees.

  9. Shape dough into small balls about 2 inches in diameter.

  10. Flatten the balls slightly and roll out.

  11. Put each piece of rolled dough onto a baking tray.

  12. Then bake the bread for 10 minutes or until very lightly browned.

  13. Pita bread is ready to be used.
