Ingredients

  • Beef undercut ½ kg (cubes)
  • Cinnamon 1 piece
  • Dry red chilies 6-7
  • Cloves 6-7
  • Whole cumin ½ tbsp
  • Black pepper 1 tsp
  • Oil ¼ cup
  • Ginger 1 piece (chopped)
  • Garlic cloves 4-5 (chopped)
  • Turmeric 1 tsp
  • Water 1 cup
  • Tomato paste 2 tbsp
  • Red chili powder 1 tbsp
  • Onion 1 (sliced)
  • Salt as required
  • Sugar 1 tsp
  • Vinegar 2 tbsp

Cooking Directions

  1. In a dry frying pan fry cinnamon, dry red chilies, cloves, cumin and black pepper and grind them all together and make a powder.

  2. In other wok heat 2 tbsp of oil, add ginger and garlic and fry till it get ripe.

  3. Add the spice powder in it.

  4. Then add beef undercut cubes and turmeric and saute for 1 minute.

  5. Add 1 cup of water, tomato paste and red chili powder, covered the pan and let it cook on low flame.

  6. In a meanwhile heat the remaining oil in a pan, add onion fry till golden brown then crush with your hands.

  7. Remove the lid after 15-20 minutes.

  8. Add crushed onion, salt, sugar, vinegar and saute for 2-4 minutes.

  9. Delicious beef balchao is ready to serve.
