Ingredients

  • Chana Daal (Skinned) 1 cup
  • Raisins a few
  • Garam Masala Whole
  • Bay Leaves 2
  • Turmeric 1 tsp
  • Cumin Seeds a few whole
  • Red Dry Chillies 2 whole
  • Green Chillies 2
  • Ginger 1 tsp
  • Ghee 3 tbsp
  • Coconut, cut into 1/2 inch squares 1/4
  • Sugar and salt to taste

Cooking Directions

  1. Wash and pressure cook daal with 1 1/2 cups water.

  2. When soft, you may boil furhter in case any water is left.

  3. The consistency is thick.

  4. Turmeric, salt, sugar are added while boiling.

  5. Once the consistency settles, heat ghee in a kadhai.

  6. Brown the coconut pieces and remove.

  7. Add a little more ghee (2 tablespoonfuls) and put in the whole garam masala, jeera, bay leaves, dry red chillies, 2 green chillies and then pour the daal.

  8. Stir in ground ginger and add the fried coconut and raisins.

  9. Allow to simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring well.

  10. This daal is eaten with puri or 'luchi'.
