Moussaka, recognised as the national dish of Greece. Its a rich casserole made by layering vegetables with a spiced minced meat filling then topping it off with a creamy bechamel sauce & cheese that is baked to golden perfection. Must try it can be easily made at home with following easy steps.

Ingredients

  • Butter 3 ounces
  • Egg 1 beaten
  • Onion 2 large (cut into rounds)
  • Brinjal 2 (cut into rounds)
  • Tomatoes 2 (cut into slices)
  • Potatoes 3 (cut in rounds)
  • Roasted mince ½ kg
  • Cheddar cheese ½ cup (grated)
  • Oil 2 tbsp
  • Coriander leaves 2 tbsp
  • For white sauce:
  • Milk 1 cup
  • Water 1 cup
  • Salt ½ tsp
  • Black pepper ½ tsp
  • Mustard powder ½ tsp
  • Butter 2 tbsp
  • Flour 2 tbsp

Cooking Directions

  1. Heat butter and oill.

  2. Now fry onion for 2-3 minutes, remove and keep aside.

  3. In the same butter and oil fry brinjal slices, remove and keep aside.

  4. Then fry potatoes till tender, remove and keep aside.

  5. For white sauce:  In a pan, put butter,  flour, milk, water, salt, black pepper, mustard and cook, stirring till turn into thick form.

  6. To Assemble: Grease a dish, arrange a layer of potatoes and brinjals.

  7. Top with roasted mince, then onion and slice tomatoes.

  8. Now pour white sauce.

  9. Spread with beaten egg.

  10. Sprinkle with grated cheese.

  11. Lastly dot with butter and bake on 180 degree C for 20 minutes.

  12. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve.
