Methi Daal is delicious red lentils with a touch of aromatic dry fenugreek. The cooked red lentils are finished with a a delicious onion and fenugreek tempering that gives the daal a deliciously aromatic flavor.

  • Split Red Lentil 1 cup
  • Onion 1 (chopped)
  • Green Chilies 3 (chopped)
  • Fresh coriander leaves few
  • Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
  • Ginger garlic paste 1/2 tsp
  • For Tempering:
  • Onion 2 (finely sliced)
  • Oil or clarified butter 2 tbsp
  • Dry fenugreek (Kasoori methi) few

Cooking Directions

  1. Add one glass of water to washed lentils.

  2. Add onion, green chilies, fresh coriander, ginger garlic paste, turmeric and pressure cook for four whistles.

  3. Open the cooker when the pressure drops.

  4. In a frying pan, heat clarified butter or oil and fry the onions till light golden.

  5. Now add the dry fenugreek (Kasoori methi).

  6. Add salt and add this to the methi daal.

  7. Serve with paratha or chapati.
