Spicy Masala Rice - Chef Zakir has shared with us a delicious recipe of spicy pea rice. Don't confuse it with ordinary pea palao. This rice is full of spicy flavors.

  • Rice 300 gm
  • Peas boiled 1 cup
  • Tomatoes 3
  • Aniseeds 4
  • Green chilies 2-3
  • Fresh coriander 1/4 bunch
  • Oil 1/4 cup
  • Water 1/4 cup
  • Dried plums 100 gm
  • Turmeric powder 1 tbsp
  • Cumin powder 1 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds 1 tbsp
  • Red chili flakes 2 tbsp
  • Ginger garlic paste 2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Cashew nut for topping (optional)

Cooking Directions

  1. In a cooking pot, boil soaked rice with cumin seeds, aniseeds and salt to taste.

  2. Strain away excess water from boiled rice and keep aside.

  3. Boil tomatoes and peel off their skin.

  4. Finely slice green chilies and 1/4 bunch fresh coriander.

  5. In a wok, heat 1/4 cup oil and sauté ginger garlic paste.

  6. Then add blenched tomatoes, sliced coriander and chilies, boiled peas, dried plums, red chili flakes, turmeric powder, cumin powder and 1/4 cup water.

  7. Stir together for 2 to 3 minutes.

  8. When spices are well combined, add boiled rice and stir together on high flames.

  9. Tops with cashew nuts if using.

  10. Delicious rice is ready to serve
