Ingredients

  • Gram lentils 500 gms
  • Sugar 3 cups
  • Powder milk 4 cups
  • Small cardamoms 10 (coarsely ground in their skin with 2 tsp sugar)
  • Almonds 6 (crushed)
  • Dalda Banaspati 2 1/2 cups
  • Almonds 10 (blanched and slivered)
  • Pistachios 10 (blanched and slivered)

Cooking Directions

  1. Boil lentils until soft and the water has dried completely.

  2. Leave to cool.

  3. Now grind the lentils in a food processor.

  4. Heat the banaspati in a heavy based pan, add cardamoms and stir for a few minutes.

  5. Now pour in the ground paste of lentils along with the powder milk (stir continuously to avoid any lump formation).

  6. Add sugar and crushed almonds to the mixture, stir frequently on medium heat.

  7. The lentils will begin to change color.

  8. When this becomes a little thick and the banaspati beings to separate, remove pan from heat.

  9. Immediately pour the mixture on a slightly greased tray, level it at once, and sprinkle the sliced nuts on top.

  10. Leave to cool for an hour.

  11. Cut into small squares or balls or any other shape you like.
