Ingredients

  • Prawns 1/2 lb
  • Onion 1 large
  • Green chilies 1 or 2
  • Drumsticks (or celery stalks) 4 cut into 3 or 4 inch bits
  • Ginger 2 inch
  • Sugar 1 tsp
  • Ghee 1 1/2 tbsp
  • Oil 1 tbsp
  • Rice water from cooked rice
  • Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • Salt to taste

Cooking Directions

  1. Heat the oil and ghee in a dekchi, add the sliced onion, sliced ginger and the green chilies, slit length wise.

  2. Let it cook for a while (but do not brown the onion).

  3. Then add about 4 or 5 pints of the water, the cleaned prawns and drumsticks.

  4. Cook on a low heat till the prawns and drumsticks are cooked.

  5. Lastly, add the turmeric powder, sugar and salt to taste.

  6. Substitute celery stalks if drumsticks are not available.

  7. Serve with boiled rice and sliced of lemon.
