In Mughal period, once a royal cook prepared a fried dish comprised of gram flour and spices. Everyone found it delicious. Then the dish became popular among the masses and it was named ‘pakora’.

Ingredients

  • Gram flour 1-1/2 cup
  • Onions 2
  • Salt to tatse
  • Coriander ½ bunch
  • Mint leaves ½ bunch
  • Green chilles 2 to 3
  • Coriander leaves 1 tbsp (chopped)
  • Cumin 1 tbsp
  • Baking soda ½ tsp
  • Red chilli 1 tbsp (chopped)

Cooking Directions

  1. Combine gram flour, baking soda, onions, coriander, mint and all spices in a bowl.

  2. Add water to make a thick mixture.

  3. When the mixture is ready, fry it in hot oil in the form of pakoras.

  4. Tasty pakoras are ready.

  5. Serve with tomato ketchup or chilli sauce.

  6. Tip:If ghee (or cooking oil) sizzles in fry pan, sprinkle a pinch of plain flour or whole wheat flour in it. The oil will stop sizzling.
