Soak gram lentils for 10-12 hours.
Grind it with onions and other ingredients given for grinding.
Heat oil in a pan, add a pinch of asafoetida and then the ground lentils.
Cook well on low flame.
Then spread it in a greased tray (thali).
Leave for a few minutes.
Cut into diamond shapes and deep fry.
Chop potatoes lengthwise and deep fry.
Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan.
Put in turmeric powder, chopped tomatoes, salt and a little sugar.
Cook for a few minutes. Put in the fried potatoes.
When tender, add the fried lentil pieces.
Put a little all spice before serving.
The pieces should not break and the gravy, should be very thick.
