Ingredients

  • Gram lentil washed in warm water, and soaked for one hour 1/2 kg
  • Milk powder 2 cups
  • Ghee 2 1/2 cups
  • Sugar 2 cups
  • Almonds, pistachios, soak in warm water, peel & chop fine 20
  • Cardamoms, peel and grind seeds with 1 tsp sugar 10
  • Walnuts, shelled and finely chopped 1/2 cup
  • Raisins 15

Cooking Directions

  1. Boil the lentil till tender but whole. Drain and cool.

  2. Grind in a blender. Heat oil in a pan, add cardamom seeds, after a minute add the ground lentil.

  3. Cook on low heat stirring frequently till the lentil changes color and becomes a little brown.

  4. Now add milk, sugar, walnuts and raisins, continue stirring till the ghee separates from halwa.

  5. Apply a little ghee to a large shallow platter, pour the halwa out I it and spread it.

  6. Sprinkle with almonds and pistachios and spread silver varaq on it.

  7. Cut into diamond shapes when cool.

  8. Store in a covered container, layered with brown paper to absorb grease.
