  • Idlis 6
  • Cheese (grated) 150 gms
  • Onions (grated) 2
  • Tomatoes (skinned and chopped) 2
  • Oil as needed
  • Salt to taste
  • Grind together:
  • Cloves of garlic 3
  • Ginger 1/2" piece
  • Green chillies 4
  • Coriander powder 1 tsp
  • Chili powder 1 tsp
  • Cardamoms 2
  • Cloves 2
  • Cinnamon 1" piece

Cooking Directions

  1. Fry onions in 1 tbsp oil.

  2. When brown, add ground spices and fry till browned.

  3. Add tomatoes and 1, 1/2 cups of water and simmer the gravy for 15-20 minutes.

  4. Make a slit in the idlis at the side with a sharp knife.

  5. Now very gently push into each, 1 tsp of grated cheese without breaking the idlis.

  6. When this is done, press together.

  7. Stuff all the idlis this way and fry in hot oil till golden brown.

  8. Add these stuffed idlis to the gravy 10 minutes before serving.
