Daalcha is a famous Hyderabadi recipe. It is a wonderfully warming and nourishing curry with a tantalising taste. Usually it is made up of lentils but here we have a chickpea substitution for a unique and different daalcha flavor.

Ingredients

  • Beef ½ kg
  • Chickpeas 1 cup ( boiled)
  • Salt to taste
  • All spice powder 1 tsp
  • Red chili powder ½ tsp
  • Ginger garlic paste 2 tsp
  • Black pepper ½ tsp (crushed)
  • Tomatoes 4 (chopped)
  • Onion 1 (chopped)
  • Green chili 5
  • Fresh coriander ½ bunch
  • Oil 100 ml
  • Turmeric powder 1 tsp
  • For Tarka:
  • Oil ½ cup
  • Onion 1 medium (finely chopped)
  • Garlic 1 tsp (finely chopped)
  • Cumin ½ tsp
  • Whole red chili 3 – 5
  • Curry leaf 2 – 3
  • Green chilies 2 – 3

Cooking Directions

  1. Add boiled chickpeas to a blender and blend to a paste.

  2. In a medium cooking pot, heat oil, add ginger, garlic paste and cook for 2 – 3 minutes.

  3. Add onion and sauté till golden brown.

  4. Now add beef and sauté, add turmeric powder, red chili powder, all spice powder, black pepper powder and cook for 5 minutes.

  5. Add chopped tomatoes, green chilies and salt.

  6. Now add ½ liter water and leave to cook on medium flame.

  7. Cook for 45 minutes or until beef tenders.

  8. Now add blended chickpeas and cook for another 10 minutes.

  9. For Tarka: Heat oil in a frying pan.

  10. Add onions, garlic, white cumin, red chilies, curry leaves and green chilies and fry.

  11. Apply tarka on dalcha and garnish with fresh coriander.
