Cholesterol is an essential part of a normal human body but higher level of cholesterol is dangerous. In medical language, human body has two major types of cholesterol which are known as Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) or it can be referred as bad cholesterol and High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) or it is also known as good cholesterol.

  • Cholesterol is an essential part of a normal human body but higher level of cholesterol is dangerous. In medical language, human body has two major types of cholesterol which are known as Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) or it can be referred as bad cholesterol and High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) or it is also known as good cholesterol. If amount of LDL is high in the blood then it is a bad and dangerous sign, as it could narrow the blood arteries thus blocking the blood circulation and cause heart diseases.

  • Symptoms

  • If you are having pain in your leg or arm while exercising then it could be due to high level of cholesterol, as the arteries supplying blood to these parts could have narrowed and you are feeling pain in them. However, not every pain is due to cholesterol. The symptoms of cholesterol do not appear instantly, often, it is very difficult for the physicians to even tell that you are having high cholesterol level or not. Thus a complete blood test could tell the actual level of cholesterol.

  • Causes

  • There could be many reasons of cholesterol like lack of physical work, extra body weight, smoking, taking alcohol or sometime it is in the inheritance. Those doing exercise regularly have less chance of getting higher levels of LDL as compare to the ones who do not exercise. Similarly smoking and taking alcohol on regular basis increases the chances of having bad cholesterol. Some consumable products like eggs (especially egg yolk), meat, sausages, cheese, cakes, cream etc have a large amount of cholesterol therefore avoiding these foods can improve cholesterol levels in our body. Any packed food that contains palm, coconut oil or cocoa butter got higher level of fats and they are not good for maintaining cholesterol level.

  • Remedies

  • Though higher LDL levels can be controlled through medication following measures can also give good results:

  • 1. Take balanced and healthy diet. Do not eat foods that are soaked in oils especially palm or coconut oils.
    2. Avoiding alcohol and smoking can also save the day for you.
    3. Exercise regularly so that your weight could be controlled and extra calories are burnt.
    4. Take two servings of oats in the breakfast.
    5. Try to eat almonds and cashews on regular basis.
    6. Having beans’ soup in lunch or dinner will also help to control cholesterol.
    7. Black tea has also proved beneficial for lowering LDL cholesterol.
    8. Omega-3 fats remained good for heart diseases and it also has a good impact on controlling cholesterol.
    9. Try to add avocado and garlic in your meals.
    10. Cooking food in olive oil is the best thing for your health.
